The History Channel recently commissioned me to create something special to celebrate Black History Month. Inspired by the 2023 theme of Black Resistance, my painting, “Shades of the Resistance”, pays homage to my ancestors who have fought endlessly for me to be here.

Education, sports, politics, the arts, and armed resistance have all played pivotal roles in the movement. By removing prominent facial features, the focus shifts from individuals to our vibrant community. My painting celebrates community and culture, while driving home the importance of our collective efforts to defy the odds.
